Overview

A race replays a ranking over time, like the « most used browsers » videos: the bars overtake each other, newcomers climb in from the bottom, and today's top 5 keep their colour all race long so you can follow them. Every race has the same controls: Play, a slider to scrub, a speed selector (×0.5 to ×4) and the music button shared with the duels. Click a bar to open the coaster or the park. All races are gathered on the Races page; a tile that has a race shows a « ▶ Race » button in its header.

The races

  • Coasters race / Parks race (Community): the CS Ranking's top 20, replayed day after day since the first computation. Bar length = CS Ranking score (share of head-to-head comparisons won); a park's score is the average of its ranked coasters.
  • My coaster race / My park race (Duels): your own top 20 by CS Score, replayed duel after duel (the time axis is the duel, not the day). A coaster joins the race at its first duel; a park once 3 of its coasters have been in your duels.
  • Record races (Coasters › Insights › Records): the fastest, tallest, longest coasters, the biggest drops and the ones with the most inversions, year by year since the 1890s. A coaster joins the race the year it opened and leaves the year after it closed; only coasters with a known opening year take part.
  • Manufacturers race (Coasters › Insights › Industry): who has built the most coasters, year by year: a coaster counts for its builder from its opening year and never leaves.

Reading a race

  • Colours: blue, green, orange, purple and red are today's #1 to #5, kept from the first frame; the others are grey.
  • The axis: starts under the 20th score, not at 0: the top scores are close and from 0 every bar would look alike.
  • The story: short captions tell the race as it runs: new leader, neck and neck, pulls away, final fight… all derived from the data, nothing invented.
  • Rows: the race shows as many rows as fit on your screen; the note under it says when the list is cut.
